Quilt Pattern Roundup: 25+ Fall Quilts to Make Now

Every year as the weather gets cooler, my quilt to-make list seems to grow. There’s something about the shorter days, crisp air and pumpkin candles that make me want to quilt non-stop. Unfortunately, my available time does not seem to grow, so I’ve just been saving all the incredible Fall and Halloween quilts I see. My list is years in the making now and since I can’t possibly make them all, I need to share so you can hopefully make a few and I can live vicariously through you. I also need to know what is on your list so I can keep adding to mine!

If you’re looking for something specific, use the links below to jump ahead!

Precut Friendly Fall Quilt Patterns

I love when a pattern is precut friendly because precuts are such a great way to get all the prints from a favorite fabric collection without having to overbuy fabric. These are just a few of my favorite precut friendly Fall quilt patterns right now.

I have admired the Fall Leaves quilt pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew for many years but have yet to make one. When I saw Shelby’s version made with Fableism Chambray, I knew this needed to move to the top of my list. Maybe this will be the year! The pattern uses 13 fat quarters or quarter yards so it’s precut friendly, too.

Pumpkins are always part of our Fall decor so the Hello Fall quilt pattern by Chelsi Stratton Designs would fit right in. This one is also fat quarter friendly and the little hearts in the middle of the pumpkins add so much charm. I think this would look so good made with the Pumpkin Spice bundle by Simple Simon and Co. for Riley Blake Designs.

The Apple Butter Days quilt pattern by Easy Piecy Quilts is a fun alternative for a Fall quilt if you want something other than pumpkins or leaves – the little apples are adorable! The pattern comes in multiple sizes, utilizes just two different blocks and is fat quarter friendly.

I love Under the Oaks quilt pattern by Heather Peterson of Anka’s Treasures! It reminds me of a sampler quilt with all the different Fall elements. The combo of pumpkins, leaves, acorns, and blossoms feels undeniably like Fall. This one is layer cake friendly and there are quilt kits available if you like the fabrics featured in the cover image.

Free Fall Quilt Patterns

I am a big fan of supporting pattern designers by purchasing their patterns, but it’s also nice when I come across a great free pattern as well. Some of my favorite places to find free patterns are blogs, Pinterest or fabric manufacturer’s websites.

I have another leaf quilt for you but this one is a free quilt pattern from Tilda! The Maple Leaf quilt pattern is a very generous throw size and looks stunning when finished. The orderly and geometric side of me loves that the blocks are all in line with one another and that there is no sashing. This one would be great for chain piecing and you could crank out those 80 leaves quicker than you think! Also, if you like the fabrics featured, there are quilt kits available to make the exact same one.

This Sweater Weather Sampler quilt is so fun and would really help build your quilting skills. It is made up of nine unique quilt blocks, each written by a different pattern designer. There is a quilt along happening now but it would also be fun to make on your own if the timing doesn’t work out.

The Autumnal quilt pattern by Coriander Quilts is available as a free download and features pumpkin and star blocks. I have a deep love for gingham so I was drawn to this pattern right away. I was thrilled to learn that the pumpkins are actually a very simple quilt block and just use gingham print fabric to make them look “gingham pieced”. I think this one could be a quick make and is so cute!

If you like the maple leaf quilt but aren’t into making a bunch of them, try this free pattern from Riley Blake Designs! It’s one large maple leaf, charm pack friendly, and would be great for beginners or if you’re short on time. The larger piecing also makes it perfect for showing off your favorite fabrics. I think this one could honestly be done in a weekend and be so great all Fall long!

In our house, we decorate for Fall and Halloween at the same time so I am including Halloween quilts as part of our Fall round-up. If you fall into the same boat and are looking to try new techniques or stretch your quilting skills, the Spooky Squad quilt pattern is perfect. The design has lots of Halloween elements – think bats, spiders, and cats – and utilizes different piecing techniques such as triangles, appliqué, HSTs, stitch-n-flip, and some hand stitching.

Easy Fall Quilt Patterns for Beginners

Quilting newbies, these next few patterns are for you! These would be easy to tackle if you’re just getting started with quilting or if you’re in a hurry to get one finished.

It doesn’t get much easier than the Patchwork Halloween quilt kit! This would make a great first quilt for anyone just getting started with quilting. This is a kit and pattern in one and comes with all the fabrics needed for the quilt top AND they are already cut so you can jump right into piecing. This is also great for showcasing the lovely Halloween fabrics pictured!

The Farmhouse Fall quilt pattern by Center Street Quilts would be another great option for newer quilters. There are two versions you can choose from; the gingham pumpkins (so cute!) or the solid pumpkins. The solid version would keep this one beginner friendly, a faster make, and great for showcasing a favorite print.

Pumpkins and leaves combine for the perfect Fall quilt pattern. Hello Pumpkin would be great for beginners or come together quickly for more experienced quilters. There’s even a video tutorial for some extra instruction and this one is layer xake friendly so you can use your favorite 10″ stacker.

The Hello Autumn quilt pattern by Primrose Cottages has large quilt blocks containing pumpkins, acorns and leaves so it would make the perfect Fall quilt for a beginner quilter to tackle!

Modern Fall Quilt Patterns

I absolutely LOVE the Apple Orchard quilt pattern by Pen + Paper Patterns. The apples are a fun alternative to the more traditional Fall quilts with pumpkins and leaves. I also love the windowpane borders around each block. I think they add a fun element to the overall look. Both versions pictured here, in solids and prints, are adorable!

A fun combo of stars and pumpkins in the Pumpkin Shine quilt pattern by Modern Charm Stitchery. There are so many fun color options with this pattern so it could fit in with any Fall decor. I love that the three pictured above all use a background color other than white.

Another gingham favorite of mine! I love the simplicity of the Harvest Season Quilt by Peartree Market and the subtle pumpkin additions in a few of the squares. This is another one that has so many fun color possibilities and really would look great anywhere!

Foundation Paper Pieced Fall Quilt Patterns

If you enjoy foundation paper piecing, there are so many great options available. These are all Fall or Halloween quilt blocks, but you could easily make multiples to get enough for a quilt and use up a lot of scraps while you’re at it.

This Mini Harvest Days Pumpkin pattern by Liza Taylor Handmade is at the top of my list. I think it would be so cute to make an entire quilt with this block using up all your Fall colored scraps. But, if you don’t have the patience for that don’t worry, Liza has another pattern with larger Harvest Days Pumpkin blocks right here.

Stars and Pumpkins? Yes, please! Another opportunity to use up scraps and fine tune your FPP skills with the Pumpkin Star FPP block pattern. These blocks are a large 10″ size so a whole quilt is definitely doable.

When you want a maple leaf quilt but prefer the precision of foundation paper piecing, this Maple Leaf quilt block is perfect. This would be another great option for using up scraps and could be fun to alternate with another FPP block for a full quilt.

The Halloween FPP Quilt Block Bundle by Quilt Cakes includes five different Halloween themed FPP blocks that measure a generous 12″ x 12″. You could easily create a whole quilt with a few of each block, or pick and choose your favorites to make over and over. I love the fun Halloween colors Amanda chose!

Halloween Quilt Patterns

It doesn’t get much cuter than ghosts with bows! I love the Boo! quilt pattern by the The Pattern Basket and am hoping to make one this year. But, if ghosts aren’t your thing, Margot has so many other great fall patterns including BeWitched, a pattern featuring witch hats, Candy Skulls with stars for eye sockets, and Hocus Pocus, a pattern with the cutest rows of pumpkins.

If you have a sweet tooth and love Halloween, the Candy Quilt by Made Everyday will be at the top of your list to make this year. It’s also the perfect pattern to show off your favorite Halloween prints and is fat quarter friendly! My fabric pick would be the new Rifle Paper Co. Halloween bundle, I love that little skeleton print the most!

Every time I see the Hocus Pocus pattern by Corinne Sovey, I stop my scroll. It almost looks like graphic art and not a quilt. The pattern is a stunning skill-builder with 17 different quilt blocks. It utilizes several methods for quilt construction including traditional piecing, foundation paper piecing, templates, and appliqué. It would be amazing for learning new piecing techniques and a quilt I would want to pull out year after year. Every color way I’ve seen of it is incredible – I don’t know how you’d choose!

Melissa of the Polka Dot Chair, always has such fun patterns and her Halloween ones are no exception. The Haberdashery pattern or Spooky Shelfie pattern would be great Halloween quilts to make this year. If you want a little variety in your block assembly, go with the Spooky Shelfie. If you’re looking for something quicker and chain piecing friendly, go with Haberdashery. And bonus, both are fat quarter friendly!

Two of my favorite pattern designers, Pen + Paper Patterns and Then Came June, teamed up for The Ghost quilt, so it’s no wonder this one has been on my to make list since it first came out. I’ve seen so many fun versions of this quilt, and really love the non-traditional colorful ones.

Another goodie from Pen + Paper Patterns, the Spider quilt. If you like a creepy, crawly Halloween theme, this would be the one for you! There is even a bonus block size included in the pattern so you could make one large spider instead of a bunch of smaller ones. That would be great if you were making multiple versions or wanting to finish more quickly. This is my son’s top pick for a Halloween quilt so one of these years I will have to make it for him.

Which of these quilts would you make first or if you have one at the top of your list I haven’t included, please share! You know I’m up for adding to my ever-growing list 🙂
